Here at the Upper Greek House we are happy to arrange any activities in which you are interested. Please let us know if you would like any further information regarding any of the below listed activities.
Hot air balloon flights
Balloon flights are the most amazing way of seeing Cappadocia's unique landscape. You will find it to be one of life's greatest thrills. Our personnel will be happy to setup an unforgettable flight for you. You will be picked up at our hotel before dawn so that you can launch at sunrise and float above the moonscape of Cappadocia silently taking in breathtaking views of vineyards, rolling hills, fruit orchards, treetops, tiny villages and floating between the heads of fairy chimneys. After landing in a field and a short celebration you are returned to our hotel in time for breakfast.
Wear good shoes and come prepared with a windbreaker. A three kilometer long walking path from our hotel brings you to 1,000 year old Golgoli ruins and Damsa Dam Lake. Also we can transport you to walks through many valleys of Cappadocia that offer a variety of hiking experiences from one to four hours or more. Paths lead through vineyards and past streams, pigeon houses, fairy chimneys, cave churches, cave houses all which can be explored.
Some tourists enjoy hiking to the next village while we transport the luggage to their new hotel.
The name Cappadocia is Persian for "The Land of Beautiful Horses". There is nothing like experiencing the beautiful Cappadocian terrain from horseback as explorers did in ancient times. The stunning colors in the landscape - tones of peach, rose, mauve, brick, violet, cinnamon, russet, gold, and cream against a turquoise blue sky create a surreal experience. Riding through valleys alongside steep cliffs with hidden caves, carved rocks and pigeon houses is unparalleled. Notify our personnel to setup a horseback riding experience for you.
Or, contact Hakke, at http://www.meltemhorses.com. Hakke's Cappadocian horse ranch can take you on the ride of your dreams. Hakke is a very interesting man because in addition to the horse ranch, he is a gaffer in the movie industry and his business works with US film makers in Istanbul and surrounding areas. If you ask him, he humbly brings news of actors he has worked with, Ben Affleck, Liam Niesen, Russell Crowe, and more. In fact two of Hakke's horses are in Russell Crowe's new movie!
Visit underground cities where you will wonder how the early Christians (the builders of the underground cities and cave churches) could have lived below ground for months undetected by their pursuers. Some of these subterranean sites go as deep as eighteen stories below ground, however only eight floors are open to the public. Within this labyrinth you will see bedrooms, kitchens, wine cellars, schools, stables, churches and tombs all below ground as well as the ventilation shafts and locking stones. The two main underground cities to visit in the area are Derinkuyu and Kaymakli (which is the smaller of the two). Our personnel can help you with directions and transportation.
Why not explore the oldest wine region in the world with a few winery tours. Every year in October an International Wine Festival is held in Urgup, the center of a successful wine producing region. Several small wineries in Cappadocia organize this wine tasting event. Local wineries provide tasting. Information is available upon request.
Learn how to prepare traditional Turkish cuisine in the kitchen at our sister hotel, The Old Greek House. Foodies will be in heaven learning alongside Emine who prepares fresh Turkish meals daily for travelers, locals, and even Martha Stewart. This fun and entertaining experience will include feasting on the foods which you have learned how to prepare. Bake bread in a traditional oven; create baklava, delicious soup, salad, anything you desire. All can be arranged by our personnel.
Take a look at your pictures after a day's hike. Did you photograph something so memorable that you'd like to create a silver replica? The silver smith in town creates jewelry of your own design overnight for a one of a kind piece of jewelry. Our personnel can assist you in finding the silver smith who can make your imagination come alive!
